Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department

Pharmaceutical chemistry is disciplines at the intersection of chemistry, especially synthetic organic chemistry, and pharmacology and various other biological specialties, where they are involved with design, chemical synthesis and development for market of pharmaceutical agents, or bio-active molecules (drugs).

Pharmaceutical chemistry is one considered to be pharmaceutical, with deep roots in the chemistry and Sciences border with Pharmacology, studying the design, synthesis and development of molecules with biological activity and drugs for therapeutic purposes.

Pharmaceutical chemistry includes analysis, study, search and tuning of organic and inorganic compounds to be used in medicine. The pioneers of this department were rooted in synthetic chemistry, phytochemistry, pharmacological screening and computer aided drug design which includes molecular docking and QSAR studies.

Pharmaceutical chemistry included various subject at under graduate level like Pharmaceutical inorganic chemistry, Pharmaceutical organic chemistry, Pharmaceutical biochemistry, Pharmaceutical analysis, Medicinal chemistry and Pharmaceutical polymer chemistry.

Pharmaceutical chemists generally practice in two areas: synthetic chemistry and analytical chemistry. A synthetic chemist helps design drugs and modifies how they are delivered into the body, such as whether a pill or patch is used.

In contrast, an analytical chemist creates procedures to make sure drugs are pure and can be detected in a person’s blood. This detection is critical for clinical trials

Pharmaceutical chemists who work in medical marketing may help find funding for expensive drug development; promote a new drug to the public; or work with the FDA to get a drug approved.

The development comes hand in hand with the advances in chemical biology, molecular modelling, and analytical methods generally in all medical fields. As a result, pharmaceutical chemistry has become a decisive and increasingly important part of modern medical, pharmaceutical and agrochemical research.
